Antique Clock Repair & Restoration for Cheltenham
Specialist servicing and sympathetic restoration for fine mechanical clocks, carried out by hand in a dedicated horologist’s workshop, with every detail agreed before we begin.
Clock repair near Cheltenham, done properly on the bench
A mechanical clock is rarely fixed by adding oil or adjusting one visible part. When wear, old lubricant or damage stops power travelling cleanly through the movement, the whole mechanism needs to be understood, not the symptom alone.
We remove and dismantle the movement so every component can be cleaned and inspected on the bench. Any necessary repairs are agreed with you first. The clock is then reassembled, regulated and tested before it returns to its case.
Our Stonehouse workshop is a short, easy drive from Cheltenham. For a longcase clock or another delicate piece, we can collect, restore, deliver and set it back up in your home.

Repairing the movement, while preserving the clock
A valuable antique clock is more than its mechanism. Its dial, case, finish and signs of age are part of its history, so restoration should do what’s necessary without stripping away what makes the clock original.
Alongside movement work, we undertake case and dial restoration, silvering, gilding and hand engraving, using traditional materials and techniques where appropriate.
James has worked professionally as a horologist since 2003, and holds a diploma in clock servicing and restoration from the British Horological Institute.
What Cheltenham customers say
James serviced and cleaned our French 8 day mantel clock, which hadn’t worked for many years. It’s been in our family for over 100 years, and he did an excellent job. It’s now back in its rightful place on the mantle. Stunning!
Super experience. I got a clock service and a pocket watch repair, both reasonably priced, and got some great advice at the same time. Highly recommend if you have any antique clocks or watches that need attention.

Frequently asked questions
Can you collect a clock from Cheltenham?
Yes. We can arrange collection, delivery and set-up, subject to a call-out charge based on distance travelled. You’re also welcome to bring your clock to the Stonehouse shop yourself.
Do you repair grandfather and longcase clocks?
Yes. We repair and service grandfather, longcase and floor clocks. Collection is particularly useful for larger clocks that are difficult or risky to transport yourself.
Can you restore a clock case or dial as well as the movement?
Yes. We undertake movement, case and dial work, including silvering, gilding and hand engraving. The exact approach depends on the clock and how much intervention we agree is right for it.
How much will it cost, and how long will it take?
It depends entirely on the clock and what’s wrong with it, so we don’t quote blind. Once we’ve inspected your clock, we’ll give you a firm cost and timescale before any work begins, and we’ll contact you again first if anything changes once we’re inside the movement.
Do you guarantee your repairs?
Yes, our workshop repairs are guaranteed. Ask us for the current terms when you bring your clock in, or when we discuss your quote.
Do you repair battery-operated or electric clocks?
We specialise in antique and quality modern mechanical clocks, and don’t normally work on quartz, mains-powered or flip-card clocks.
