More than a quick oil and adjustment
A clock can appear to have one simple fault while the real cause sits deeper in the movement. Dried oil, worn pivot holes and damaged parts all create friction. Turning an adjuster or adding more oil may get it moving briefly, but it does not deal with that wear.
Where a full service is needed, the movement is taken apart and its components cleaned. We inspect for damage, make the agreed repairs, rebuild the movement and regulate it. It is tested before being fitted back into the case.
Gloucester customers can bring smaller clocks to our shop at 4 Bath Road, Stonehouse. If the clock is large, fragile or awkward to move, ask us about collection and return, with set-up at home where needed.

Old clocks should still look like old clocks
A case polished until it looks new or a dial repainted without thought can lose the character people valued in the first place. Good restoration is not simply about making everything bright again.
We can deal with the movement, case and dial as one project. That may include silvering, gilding, hand engraving or cabinet work, but only where it suits the clock and the result you have agreed.

Clock repair for Gloucester and nearby villages

Can I bring my clock from Gloucester to the workshop?
Yes. Smaller clocks can be brought to our shop at 4 Bath Road, Stonehouse, during the published opening hours. Please contact us first if you are making a special journey or have a particularly large clock.
What about a grandfather clock that cannot easily be moved?
Yes. We work on grandfather, longcase and other floor-standing clocks. Because they need to be moved and set up correctly, many Gloucester customers prefer us to collect and return them.
Does the workshop handle the case and dial too?
Yes. Case and dial work can be carried out alongside mechanical repairs. Options include silvering, gilding and hand engraving, but the right treatment depends on the clock's materials, age and existing finish.
When will I know the price and timescale?
There is no honest standard price for every clock. We need to inspect the movement and understand its condition. You will receive a cost and expected timescale before work starts; if dismantling reveals something materially different, we speak to you again.
Do you guarantee your repairs?
Workshop repairs come with a guarantee. We will explain the terms that apply to your particular job when the clock is booked in or quoted.
Can I bring in a quartz or electric clock?
Usually, no. Our equipment and experience are centred on antique and good-quality modern mechanical movements rather than quartz, mains-powered or flip-card clocks.
