Up for auction/sale is a spectacular museum-grade example of late 18th/early 19th-century British horological history: an English solid silver pair-cased pocket watch featuring a traditional chain-driven fusee movement and verge escapement.

This massive historic piece measures a commanding 5.5cm (55mm) in diameter, complete with its protective matching outer case.

The Movement
The mechanical movement is an absolute work of art. The fire-gilt full plate layout is deeply hand-engraved with the early cursive signature “Jos’h Johnson,

London” alongside the rare low production/serial number 431. It features
• A breath-taking, deeply pierced and intricately carved winged balance cock featuring a detailed stylized floral center and a traditional grimacing mask at the base.
• A vibrant, original heat-blued steel retention screw securing the central diamond endstone.
• A traditional silver regulator disc mounted alongside an engraved Slow / Fast reference index track.
