Up for sale is a stunning, museum-quality 19th-century French 8-day bronze ormolu mantel clock, dating from circa 1870. This exceptional timepiece is designed in a grand, wide-sweeping neoclassical style, beautifully adorned with superb hand-painted turquoise (Bleu Céleste) Sèvres porcelain panels.
The clock is crowned with a large, highly decorative porcelain and ormolu urn finial featuring finely cast ram’s head handles and a hand-painted scene of a classical mother and child. The lower case boasts sweeping gilt-bronze side scrolls decorated with heavy grape clusters. The turquoise porcelain dial is intricately detailed with a central painted cherub surrounded by individual white enamel Roman numeral cartouches.
